truthfully? it’s been the worst. that’s sort of why i had to go on an indefinite hiatus…


and by worst, i mean the best, most beautiful, omg aslkfdj; what did we did we do to deserve this showww?!?! ;) i’ve been enjoying it very much, thank you :’) The first 5 eps of the season were the strongest story-wise for me, and the last few have been a little here & there and more filler-like… but still fun. For me, this season has characteristically been where ‘filler eps’ are ~never filler eps and instead a sledgehammer of feels, while the ridiculously media-hyped eps are the ones that tend to fall a little short. being on hiatus, i’ve only been keeping up with the occasional spoiler/review article and comments on twitter, so it’s actually been really refreshing to go into eps without ~all of fandom’s capslocks!!1!! expectations and to come out of it with nobody’s post-ep reactions, disappointment, or flail but my own.

As a victim of the crash & burn that was House/Cuddy (my heart forever aches), I’m incredibly happy with the progression of Castle/Beckett’s relationship and the issues that Marlowe has chosen to address thus far. And just, ugh, Beckett’s loveballs this season and Stanaaaa ♥ I was quite pleasantly surprised with the Christmas ep, as i went in w fairly low-medium expectations after eps 6-8. I just loved how balanced it was w all character storylines, & the way Castle/Beckett handled their conflict. i felt it was the first real conflict that was rooted in who they were as individuals (as opposed to an outside force like Probable Cause, or a fear that stemmed from past history or their future). Just the depth of understanding & respect, yet both so willing to change & move forward together. a solid and beautiful end to the 2012 ep run. i know some people were hoping for an ‘i love you’ from Beckett amidst twinkling xmas lights and in Castle’s arms, as was I, but watching the ep, it just was never set up for that, so i didn’t really miss it at all.

having said that, i do feel like Marlowe is very carefully pacing how he hits certain milestones and anticipated scenes. of course i’d love to see them going at it against a door again, or just a morning shot of them waking up in bed together on a regular work day, but it’s still early on in the season and the crew has the 100th ep to think about, possibly a two-parter, and of course, the finale. so i think he’s spreading out those intimate moments pretty carefully and there’s still lots to look forward to. i do hope there’s more glimpses of domesticity in the latter half of the season (because i’m such a sucker for those scenes, okay?) - some theory-building in bed, cooking in each other’s kitchens again, etc. And as much as Beckett is my absolute fave, i do feel like having her inside the relationship now offers the interesting storytelling opportunity to get to know more of Castle’s backstory (because for the title character, let’s face it… his backstory has been pretty surface & in general terms so far), as she can ask questions that nobody else could. Just in the Christmas ep, with his line of “Every year [my mother] would put on ‘The Nutcracker Suite.’ And I thought, if she can do that in our tiny apartment when money was tight and we were alone… It gave me hope that things could get better.” , i was immediately intrigued as it had somehow slipped my mind that he didn’t come from money, that there must have been periods of his life where he did struggle - and it’s been touched on vaguely, but i feel there’s more to flesh out. hmm, writing this out now, i do have a feeling “Significant Others” could address a bit of all those areas.

I have no idea why :(( Things were looking so promising when they used Castle & Beckett to open their “This Fall on CTV” montage, but since then… the actual CTV publicity team behind Castle seems to be very behind and not bothering to keep up with the new season :/ And I don’t know why? The Castle CTV page hasn’t been updated in awhile, except for the “Next Ep” bubble (at least that, thank goodness), but no updates to the gallery, or even the actual ‘After the Storm’ synopsis. So that’s a little bit telling. Hoping things change after the premiere! Always love it when we support our fave Canadian duo ♥
